Discounted Internet Services for Seniors

CONNECTING FAMILIES INITIATIVE
Between January 3 and 9, 2025, the Government of Canada sent approximately 460,000 letters to
Canadians who are eligible to participate in the Connecting Families Initiative (CFI).
The CFI, which is delivered by the Government of Canada in partnership with Internet service
providers (ISPs) across the country, o􀆯ers discounted Internet services to eligible families and
seniors.
Who is eligible
 Families that receive the maximum amount of the Canada Child Benefit (CCB)
 Canadian seniors who meet one of the following criteria:

  • are receiving the maximum amount of the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS)
  • are single, have an annual income of less than $4,000 and qualify for the Old Age
    Security (OAS) program
  • are part of a couple, have a combined annual income of less than $8,000 and
    qualify for the OAS program
    Eligibility is evaluated annually by the Government of Canada. No application is required. Eligible
    individuals will receive a letter from the government with instructions on how to sign up for the
    initiative.
    How to register
    Individuals need to have received a letter to sign up for the program. Upon receiving this letter,
    individuals should visit the Connecting Families registration portal at www.cf-fb.ca and enter the
    following information found on their letter:
     full name
     address
     8-digit access code
    Available discounted plans
    Individuals who received a letter are eligible for low-cost, high-speed Internet packages from
    participating ISPs. Two options are available:
    Plan 1
    $10 per month (plus tax), which includes:
     up to 10 megabits/second (Mbps)
    download speed
     1 Mbps upload speed
     100 GB of data
    Plan 2
    $20 per month (plus tax), which includes:
     up to 50 Mbps download speed
     10 Mbps upload speed
     200 GB of data

  • Discounted digital devices
  • Canadians eligible for the CFI can also obtain a discounted refurbished digital device through the Computers for Schools Plus program while supplies last. Devices available include laptops, computers, tablets and electronic accessories. Availability varies depending on region and affiliate organization.
